To access setup:
Before you use the Kinetics program, please check the default parameters by viewing the Setup window.
Because setup affects all users, it is password protected.
The Kinetics© program ships without a password. The first time you access setup you will be asked for a password and then asked to reenter to confirm it. Thereafter, this will be the password required to access the setup function, so choose one that you can easily remember. If you should lose or forget your password, contact RxKinetics for help in recovering it.
General tab Database folder - usually should not be changed unless you manually change the location of your database file. You can either enter the name of the folder in the text box or click the folder icon to the right of the text box to bring up a find file dialog box.
Default $ Savings - this is the dollar amount which appears on the pharmaceutical care plan. It indicates the average savings that are to be expected from your PK interventions. Dollar savings are tabulated on the workload report.
Login Method - choose whether new users are able to add their own log in (Open) or to only allow someone with knowledge of the password to add new users (Closed). The Kinetics program ships with an Open policy (otherwise no one would be able to log in!). To comply with HIPAA standards, the login should be closed thereafter.
Patient lookup - choose the default patient lookup: by patient MRN or name.
Age entry - choose to either input the patient's date of birth or age. Date of birth is the default, please don't change this just for the sake of convenience. Change to Input Age only if you do not have ready access to date of birth. This database field stores a date, if you enter an age only, the data integrity is breached.
Height/weight entry - choose the height/weight measurement system used in your practice, metric (cm/kg) or US (in/lbs).
BSA method - choose either the Mosteller method (the default) or the more traditional DuBois and DuBois equation.
SrCr entry - choose the creatinine measurement system used in your practice, metric (SI units) or US (mg %).
Minimum SrCr - choose to use a minimum creatinine in CrCl equations by checking the box. Enter the minimum SrCr you will be using .
IDMS SrCr adjustment - if your lab reports creatinine via the IDMS method then you may choose to adjust the SrCr used in CrCl equations. IDMS is usually 10-20% less than traditional SrCr. Enter the formula used to correct SrCr, obtained by regression analysis.
CrCl weight adjustment - These parameters determine the magnitude of the obesity correction factor and the point at which it begins. These factors are used to calculate the Adjusted Body Weight used in the Cockcroft and Gault ABW equation. % of excess weight (CF) Correction factor (CF) is defined as the % of excess weight over LBW. CF is used in the ABW equation as follows: ABW = LBW + [CF x (TBW - LBW)] CF is 30% by default, but may be changed to fit your preference. For example, to always use LBW (never correct for obesity) change CF to zero. The allowable range is 0 to 100%. Start at BMI greater than The starting point at which the correction factor begins is, by default, BMI > 30. The allowable range is BMI 30 to 40.
Default CrCl method - Select the default method used to calculate creatinine clearance.
